Daniel Touw
Daniel was born in Indianapolis in 1975. He is a graduate of North Central High School-class of 1993. He graduated from Indiana University (Bloomington) with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art. After some work for the university as an interior painter, and a short stint at Sunrise/Interart (now owned by Hallmark) in Bloomington as a product designer, he got a job at Mefford Swings, building porch swings and other wooden furniture at Vern Meffords’ wood shop. From here, Daniel then acquired his framing skills while working for Spaulding Construction.

Daniel moved back to his hometown of Indianapolis in 2000. He worked for All Phase Construction and Bruder Remodeling and Construction before co-founding Umlaut Limited with Jonathan Terry in early 2004. In that time and since he has been working feverishly on his skill, craft and knowledge.

Daniel is married with one child and is a musician in free time.

Jonathan Terry
Jon was born and raised in Indianapolis and attended North Central High School, graduating in 1993. He is a graduate of Indiana University, obtaining a BA in History (’97). Upon graduating from IU Jon traveled around the country, taught English as a Second Language and eventually landed a position teaching English in Hungary. Upon returning to Indiana and meeting his future wife, he moved to Bloomington and started Custom Made, an enterprise specializing in hand painting and light carpentry. The hobbyist-woodworker then moved to Wisconsin to study Cabinetmaking and Architectural Millwork at Milwaukee Technical College under the tutelage of German cabinetmaker Berthold Gontek. He returned to his hometown in 2004 to co-found Umlaut Limited with Daniel Touw.

Jon lives in Broad Ripple restoring their house with his wife, Ali and their hound dog, Otis.
